Poster - "Kiwi Kong VS. Giant Squid"

This is a poster I've been meaning to put together for about a year now. Finally done.

Last year I drew and cleaned up a personal poster design but that was as far as I got with it. Now almost a year later I've pulled it out and have coloured it up.

The idea was to make a faux movie poster for a B grade Monster movie, and this was the result. Two creatures duking it out above the streets of Auckland.
It's something I would like to make into a short cartoon one day... or maybe a cartoon within a cartoon. Deep!

Hand drawn, Pencil on Paper.
Inked, Coloured and Composited with open source software including 'Pencil' and 'Gimp'.
The folded paper background was "Tea Soaked" and scanned.

I have to get a copy printed for my room, can anyone recommend the best printers in Auckland to get this done? I'm thinking of getting it printed at A1 size. Also if anyone thinks they might be interested in one of these, then be sure to let me know. I selfishly made this for myself and don't know if it appeals to anyone else.

'Til the next one.

"El Terror De La Calamidad Abismo"

My poster entry for the MGM channels 'Tarantino video shop' competition.
View the winning entries here.
If you like Grindhouse posters and cheesy, sleazy VHS covers, then check out the winning entries (Several of them by one talented guy). They perfectly capture the essence of the genre.

While my design wasn't in the winning Top 10, I still managed to get a prize pack. Yay!
Also a free typo on the Winners page too :p

Translated as "The Terror of Calamity Chasm"
Unbelievable, Uncivilized, Undead!

Special thanks to my dad for telling me to add a scantily clad lovely to the design.

Next time I'll post some of the W.I.Ps and roughs from the development of the poster.

Cheers.

An update here and an update there.

A few months ago I posted some drawings and a digital clean up of my 'Kiwi Kong' character. Here is my paper layout and digital line art for a poster I plan to get printed sometime. So I drew this up with coloured pencils, darkened the lines and then traced over it in the computer. I use Gimp as my photo shop and Pencil as my vector based tracing software. When I get around to colouring this it will either be done in Inkscape or Gimp. More on Software here.

Anyhoo,

I 'm working on a few projects at the moment, Two of which are short animations for friends who are making their own short films. Also I need to colour this poster and another image which close friend's of mine have been waiting for. As for my short film, further work is on hiatus until the end of September, once I get some of these other pieces of work completed.
